Third kit, first in our hearts | Sick Kit Friday

Straight out of the Adidas creator studio, these are the sickest kits that dropped this week.

Last week, Adidas made five people’s dreams come true.Through their new digital Creator Studio, Adidas launched a competition where fans submitted design ideas for some third kits for some of their favorite teams: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, and AC Milan.Other fans then voted on the designs to narrow them down to a top 100, from which the winning design was picked by some of the clubs’ iconic players. These are those winning designs.

Bayern Munich’s fan-designed third kit tops off a truly stellar year for their releases. It’s simple, drawing from the club’s classic kit elements and colors, but adds an interesting jagged feature to the vertical red stripes that also fade away at the bottom of the kit.

Real Madrid are no strangers to solid colored kits, but this teal third top adds a subtle darker blue square graphic on the upper left and lower right.

The club’s new “Black and white and more” identity shines through maybe best in their third kit. There’s the black and white stripe across the chest, and the “more” is a deep olive green.

What looks like a traditionally black and red Milan kit is disrupted by a unique design that looks like a broken up red arrow across the chest — pointing to the club’s logo — a pattern that continues more subtly in the differently shaded black stripes down the rest of the kit.

Although the fan who designed of the Manchester United third kit came under fire for the grey color and monochrome crest — which he defended by saying the club, not him, had final say on — the rest of the design he thought of is perhaps the most unique of all, beyond the color scheme. It celebrates the club most directly, featuring a dotted design of the ‘Holy Trinity’ statue of Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law which sits outside Old Trafford. Pogba and Zidane seem pretty happy about the final results, too...
