Graziano Pelle’s move to China for a reported €17 million per year positions him as one of the highest earning football players in the world and shows how China is keen to bring in foreign talent. Pelle certainly isn’t the first foreign player to join the Chinese leagues (if they keep offering crazy wages like these he won’t be the last), here are some of the notable names he’ll be joining.
Paulinho // Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao // Transfer Fee: £11.9m
Since his move from Tottenham
He’s played an important part in Guanhzhou Evergrande’s current unbeaten streak of 15 games as well as their fifth-straight league win and looks well settled into the club.
Jackson Martinez // Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao // Transfer Fee: £35.7m
Unfortunately, he’s missed lots of games through injury and there has been general concerns with his performance. Rumours are that he plans a move to Serie A.
Freddy Guarin // Shanghai Greenland Shenhua // Transfer Fee: £11m
It took him 9 matches to score his first goal in China and whilst there has been speculation of a return to Italy, sources close to the player say he hasn’t considered that possibility and aims to fulfil his contract.
Demba Ba // Shanghai Greenland Shenhua // Transfer Fee: £11m
As the league’s current top scorer, he looks to be on great form; filling the hole for the club that previously neither Drogba or Anelka could.
Gervinho // Hebei China Fortune // Transfer Fee: £15.3m
Gervinho seems to be doing his bit in helping the club aim for finishing near the top of the table. He says he’s ‘enjoying discovering Chinese life – the people have been very welcoming’.
Ezquiel Lavezzi // Hebei China Fortune // Transfer Fee: £4.6m
The big wages (reportedly £400000 per week) doesn’t seem to be backed up by goals as of yet and a recent injury in the Copa America means he won’t be changing that any time soon.
Alex Teixeira // Jiangsu Suning // Transfer Fee: £42.5m
He appears to be playing well but he doesn’t seem to have quite yet got into his stride in comparison to his time at Shakhtar where he scored 22 goals in 15 league games.
Ramires // Jiangsu Suning // Transfer Fee: £23.8m
Ramires says he has been ‘having a great time, scoring goals’ and is generally happy. Things are apparently much as he expected when he ‘accepted this challenge’.
Hulk // Shanghai SIPG // Transfer Fee: £47.4m
This record move only happened in July but he got off to a great start by scoring 9 minutes into his debut. Unfortunately though, he was carried off injured soon after.
