A connection of Copa90 has reported that Arsenal are on the verge of signing young Japanese talent Takuma Asano from defending J.League champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
The 21-year-old was reportedly set to join Augsburg, who had prepared an offer of £2.2 million just days after signing Gamba Osaka striker Takashi Usami, a teammate of Asano’s in recent Japan squads.
But with Austria’s RB Salzburg and Switzerland’s Grasshopper Club Zurich joining the fray, Premier League giants Arsenal have swooped in with a favourable offer according to an insider with knowledge of the move, who says the striker would likely be loaned out to another club in the short term should the deal be completed.
Asano, who was named the 2015 J.League’s Best Young Player after scoring nine goals as a substitute, scored twice in January to lead Japan to victory in this year’s AFC U-23 Championship Final. He is expected to represent his country at the upcoming Rio Olympics, and would be the third Japanese player at Arsenal after Junichi Inamoto and Ryo Miyaichi.
