With many of the Eastern, Northern and Central European leagues in full swing, and the opening day of the Premier League underway, we decided that it was time to bring back the stories from the terraces. Austria Salzburg are amongst our favourite fan-owned stories in Europe. The club emerged out of Red Bull’s take over of the original Austria Salzburg. Last year the club achieved promotion to the Austrian second division. Despite losing 5-3, the 2,500 away fans in attendance celebrated with their players well after the game was over.

CSKA Sofia played their opening match in the Bulgarian third South-West division after being relegated from the First Division after defaulting as a club due to growing debt. Their supporters have not left their side however, and this weekend they put on quite a display, showing that even down at semi-professional level, their loyalty is unshaken.

In the DFB Pokal, Holstein Kiel created a unique choreography that is representative of the creative support that is often found in German football. They opened the match with a boat rising from the stands; fitted with a smoke stack and all. In response, the Stuttgart supporters put on a pyro show.

The CopaFam will certainly be familiar with the great support at Union Berlin. This weekend, as Union went away to Viktoria Köln, their fans showed what great support they could bring, even away from home. They totally outclassed the Viktoria fans, producing 90 minutes of pure noise, and making it seem as though they were the team at home.

Duisburg reminded us why we love choreographies in German football. Great displays spanned massive standing sections of the crowd, something that can be found from the first division all the way down the lower divisions. In response to Duisburg's impressive display, the Schalke supporters lit flares to make their away presence felt.

Dnipro and Dynamo Kiev ultras marched together ahead of their match on the weekend. In Ukraine, the recent conflict with Russia has created a number of alliances between fan groups who see Russian fan groups as a common enemy.

Nantes’ supporters came up with a truly creative way of expressing their dissatisfaction with modern football with their choreography this weekend. They made a tifo of an old school football, with the writing “Before, football was popular” then they dropped the 'monopoly man' glasses and moustache in front of it, and unveiled a banner that read “But that was before…”.

The Red Tigers Lens held a massive corteo ahead of their match against Red Star Paris on the weekend. We don’t often hear about football supporters in French football, but these scenes from fans in Ligue 2 demonstrate a rapidly growing fan culture in France.. In the end, Lens tied the match 1-1.
Everton – Watford
Watford supporters celebrated their debut in the Premier League this weekend with a festive 90 minutes of chanting away at Everton's Goodison Park. The game ended 1-1, and it seems that the Watford supporters are bringing the incredible atmosphere of Championship football to the Premier League.
