Juventus hung on to a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid last night to confirm their place in the Champions League Final in Berlin alongside Barcelona. To go to the Bernabeu and restrict Real Madrid to just one goal and grab one of their own was an incredible achievement for a team who only nine years ago were in the Italian Second Division. The magnitude of their achievement was not lost on the Juventus players, let alone the delirious Juve fans who had travelled to Madrid for the match. The scenes after the final whistle were both heartwarming and memorable. The Juventus players broke out in wild celebration. Some fell to the ground in relief, some hugged each other... some, in the forms of Paul Pogba and Patrice Evra, even had a dance off. The highlight of the immediate aftermath was Chiellini's insistence on joining the travelling fans and celebrating with them. As he hopped the advertising boards, he was mobbed by the grateful Juve fans and held in absolute devotion. The fans made their appreciation known when Juventus returned home late last night. It is easy for a team to simply clap the fans and leave the pitch after the 90 minutes, but the genuine desire of the Juventus team to celebrate with and for the fans was great to see. Only recently did we see a similar occurrence, after Bayern's second leg destruction of Porto, when Muller also joined the fans to celebrate. The affectionate actions of Chiellini and the rest of the team were reciprocated later on when the squad arrived at the airport in Turin later that night.
