Greatest Superclasico Goalscorers

As we prepare for the third Superclasico in the last twelve days, we look back at some of the greatest players to have scored in the Superclasico in recent years, the list is actually incredible...

Radamel Falcao

Radamel Falcao played for River Plate from 2001-2009 scoring 34 goals in 90 appearances.  Although he is struggling at Manchester United today, the River faithful will always cherish his performances.

David Trezeguet

After a successful career in Europe, including becoming the 4th all time leading scorer for Juventus, David Trezeguet decided to take on a new challenge at River Plate.  Trezeguet joined the Millionarios when they were relegated to the second division for the first time in their history.  His goals helped bring them promotion.

Hernan Crespo

Hernan Crespo is a legend of European football, having played for, Parma, Lazio, Inter, Chelsea, Milan, and Genoa. But before he went to Europe he sharpened his teeth on the Boca Juniors defense.

Marcelo Salas

Dubbed El Matador, Marcelo Salas won a trophy for every club he ever played  for. His wonderfully cyclical career took him from Universidad de Chile, River Plate, S.S. Lazio, Juventus, back to River Plate and eventually back to Universidad.

Gonzalo Higuain

Gonzalo Higuain is one of the top strikers in Europe today.  His prolific spell at Real Madrid, and current exceptional form for Napoli were only made possible thanks to a healthy youth career at River Plate.  Gonzalo played for the La Banda from 1999 – 2007.

Rodrigo Palacio

Rodrigo Palacio is currently struggling at Serie A side Inter Milan, but don’t let this bad form fool you. While playing for Boca Juniors between 2005-2009, Rodrigo won 3 national titles and one Copa Libertadores, scoring 54 times in 131 appearances.

Martin Palermo

Martin Palermo had two stints at Boca Juniors between 1997-2000 and 2004-2011, scoring 236 goals, a club record.  He achieved legendary status with Boca in the last few years.  In his last home match at La Bombonera martin was gifted one of the goal frames of the stadium.

Juan Riquelme

Juan RIquelme is considered one of the most talented Argentine playmakers of his generation for his creative passing.  Throughout his career he won 3 Primera Division titles and 3 Copa Libertadores.  In total Riquelme played 370 matches for the Azul y Oro.

Diego Maradona

Diego Armando Maradona, or El Pibe D’Oro has demigod status in Argentina.  A man of the people, Maradona has always pledged his allegiance to Boca Juniors.   His working class identity made him an ideal fit for the Boca fans.

Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez, known to his fans as El Apache, is an incredibly gifted striker. Like many of the great players on this list, Tevez cemented his skills while playing for Boca as a youth.  Recently he replicated his Chicken Dance celebration while playing for Juventus leading many to think he might return to Boca.
