CSKA Sofia Ultras Demand Answers After 7th Straight Defeat

The Derby between Lokomotiv Sofia and CSKA Sofia is amongst the biggest match in Bulgarian football. Their rivalry began in the late 1940s when the newly founded CSKA became champion after their first year of competition in 1948. In Soviet times, both clubs were operated by the state, with CSKA belonging to the military and Lokomotiv as the club of the train workers.

After the clash earlier in the week, the home supporters of CSKA put on a show, however their players did not live up to expectations. After failing to score in their last 6 matches, supporters in CSKA’s Sector G prepared a choreography and banner with the statement “Let us play this game”. The subsequent image is a rendering of an ultras grabbing the two ends of a foosball table featuring CSKA’s players.

After losing the game 1-0 CSKA Sofia’s ultras began to chant, “You do not deserve to wear that shirt”. In the end all the players were forced to hand their jerseys over to the fans. Police eventually intervened, getting the home team players into the locker room, but this did not stop their fans from waiting outside the grounds to continue insulting the players. On the other side, the Lokomotiv fans lauded their players as heroes.
